Virtual Workspace Service Deployments

This page lists information about workspace service deployments that you can submit requests to.

The administrators of these deployments have posted instructions here for how to apply for access and in some cases instructions to run your first "hello" workspace instance.

The current deployments on this page require an updated client pre-release that supports the latest WSDL and features. Among other things, the new client is equipped to send a public key for SSH login personalization of a workspace instance. Download it here. Installation instructions for a client-only installation can be found here.

Teraport Workspace Service

Update: go to the clouds page to see changes taking place on Teraport. The workspace cloud client is designed to be very easy to install and use and we recommend investigating this first. Email workspace-user@globus.org (see the contact page).

This is a workspace service deployment running on the University of Chicago Teraport cluster.

For access, please send requests to Tim Freeman. You will need to send your DN as well as a pointer to the CA that signed your certificate.

The service is running under a host certificate signed by this CA which you should install to your trusted certificate directory.

We have pre-staged the hello1 workspace from the marketplace as an example to work with.

To use this on Teraport, use this metadata file and this sample deployment request. The factory URL is https://tp-vm1.uchicago.edu:8444/wsrf/services/WorkspaceFactoryService

If you need instructions on how to run the cient, see the user quickstart. If you are an experienced Globus user and are familiar with workspace concepts, see the quicker-start.

Teraport EC2 Gateway

This is a workspace service deployment running on the University of Chicago Teraport cluster that serves as a portal to the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). For more information, see this EC2 backend features section of the documentation.

This workspace deployment is funded by the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago for relevant research. Please email Kate Keahey to inquire about access.

The service is running under a host certificate signed by this CA which you should install to your trusted certificate directory.
