"Xen was the obvious choice for the virtualization part, but it took me a fair amount of time to find a piece of software to manage the deployment of the VMs. I came across Globus virtual workspaces (Nimbus) and the Globus Toolkit. This was by far the best solution for deploying and managing the developer environments."

We have encountered uses where pipelines of work need to run that depend on numerous scientific applications being installed and configured.

Ensuring a consistent compute environment in this way can be challenging, especially across various architectures and operating systems. The Nimbus cloud seems to be a fantastic way to solve this problem! We ourselves intend to investigate using workspaces to provide additional VM compute slots to the community.
